Palm Wine Tappers Attack Sir John!...

Palm wine tappers in the Ashanti region are up in arms against the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John for comments he made which to them has downgraded their profession. They have therefore called on Sir John to apologize to all palm wine tappers in the country within the next two weeks since he had incurred their wrath. But, Owusu Afriyie says he doesnt see the reason why he should apologize since the comment is not derogatory. The NPP General Secretary in a reaction to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Scribe of the NDC that he is inexperience hit back that General Mosquito was a palm wine tapper at the time he (Sir John) was studying in the University some 31 years ago. This comment has however attracted the ire of the Palm Wine Tappers Association in the Ashanti region. Speaking to the Patriot yesterday, Kwabena Owusu, Spokesperson for the Association hinted that the comment made by Sir John was unfortunate since it sought to humiliate the palm wine profession. The spokesperson contended that the contest in which Sir John spoke was derogatory. When asked what they would do if the NPP Scribe does not apologize, Kwame Owusu promised to pay him back if the NPP comes to the Ashanti region to campaign. Meanwhile, speaking to newsmen yesterday, Sir John said he doubted the existence of the Palm Wine Tappers Association since he has resided in the Ashanti region for several years. Sir John argued that the individual whom the statement was made against has not demanded an apology and wondered why the association is making noise over the matter. There is no apology that would come from me. The statement is not derogatory and I am not going to apologize, he stressed.
