Project Supervisor Calls On Gov’t To Deal With UPSA “Hoodlums” For Stalling Project

A project supervisor by name Mr. Kofi Nketiah, is calling on the Akufo-Addo led government to immediately put in measures to curtail the activities of certain landguards that stormed a project site to stop the contractor from working.

According to him, the sod-cutting ceremony to herald the beginning of the projects at UPSA, was done by the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on behalf of the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and sees no reason why the project site could be besieged by certain people.

Mr. Kofi Nketiah noted that the action by the “hoodlums” is an insult to the President of Ghana and the Education Minister who have recognized that there is a need to cater for the overwhelming increase in number of student population at the University.

According to him, lawlessness characterized the scene on the campus of UPSA when “the hoodlums stormed the schools’ new development project site to stop the contractor from going ahead with the days scheduled work.”

He explained that “the development project which is scheduled to be completed in 16-months involves a ten-floor multipurpose twin tower edifice and two new ten-storey hostel block facilities to cater for the overwhelming increase in number of student population in the University.”

Mr. Kofi Nketiah continued that “subsequently, the foresight of the school which is attendant with the increased enrolment at the second-cycle level, is to equip the school to cater for the obvious influx of students who will be seeking tertiary education beginning next year.”

He was empathic to point out that he believes the action of the group is tied to land ownership but was quick to add that their case comes across “as weak and unsound”.

He further added that the land on which the Government of Ghana has instructed them to work on belongs to government and not any individual.

“UPSA for Christ’s sake begun as a private institution but has long since been taken over by government. Not long ago, they attained full-fledged University status and have been documented as one of the forward looking and better managed universities in the country. It is a state owned university”, he observed.

So what is the proper locus for anyone to challenge the use of a government property to the service of a government institution aside selfish parochial interests of fake-faced individuals? More so, if a university lauded for its infrastructural and educational achievements within the short period of attaining full-fledged university status, cannot benefit from a legitimately procured government asset then who else stands the chance?” he quizzed

He finally warned that “UPSA aside being a state-owned university holds the proper documents issued under the authority of the Land Title Registry so the faces behind this notoriety must be dealt with by the law to deter others from doing same in the near future.”
