New Voters' Register: EC Asked To Exercise "Common Sense"

Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, Kweku Boahen, has charged the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission [EC], Madam Jean Mensa to use her ‘common sense’ to rescind her decision to compile a new voters' register.

“How can you by dictatorial powers insist you will compile a new voter’s register at a time that greater portion of the citizens are against your position?” he rhetorically asked.

" . . stop being arrogant because you feel you need to secure you current position . . . so that the circumstances surrounding the removal of your predecessor is not repeated to you,” he said.

Discussing the current position of the EC boss on the introduction of the new voters' register, Kweku Boahen on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion segment cited, "there is no need for EC to compile a new voters' register when the already existing one has no problem. If the machine for the up-coming elections is not to be fit for purpose, why don’t we change the machine leaving the data to be transferred on the new machine to be bought. Why should both the machine and the data be disposed-of as a new one is compiled?”

Kweku Boahen alleged that although the EC cannot manipulate the final results, it can manoeuvre ways to favour the current governing party which elected her into office during the compilation of the new voters' register.
