The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced high security and digitized trade licensing with an aim of improving security.

The management of DVLA is optimistic the new Vehicle Registration System will streamline registration process, prevent leakages and eliminate potential duplications.

However, the system has been met with stiff opposition.

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abronye DC speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia"  stressed the significance of the new digitized trade license and how it has improved the services of DVLA.

He added the initiative has exposed fraudsters who have been in operation for years.

"The total number of DV plates sold in 2019 was about 16,000. At the turn of 2020, the introduction of the sticker DVLA revealed that within just 18 days, a total of 23,000 plates were sold within three weeks…which is shocking when matched against 16,000 plates for the whole of 2019.

“This has exposed the fraudulent activities of the plate manufacturers who have been in operation for years but are fighting to continue milking the Authority and the State…Clearly, this was enough testament that the old system was flawed and this necessitated the introduction of a robust and secured digitized system to block all revenue leakages", he said.
