Massive Demo Rocks Swedru

Massive demonstration was yesterday organised by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona West District of the Central Region for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive, Jacob Obeng Forson, from office. This, according to the demonstrators, has become necessary due to the corruption and deliberate attempts on his part to suffocate the NDC party in the Agona West Constituency. The demonstration, which started around 9:30 am and went through the principal streets of Swedru, ended at the Municipal Assembly amidst heavy security. The unforeseen nearly happened when the security officers started firing warning shots, a situation which charged the irate youth to chant more war songs to signify their readiness to surrender to whatever would come. Although the MCEs car was parked at the assembly, he was nowhere to be found. He was alleged to have taken to his heels when he heard the warning shots fired by security personnel. The constituency propaganda secretary of the NDC, Kwesi Dawood, who read and presented the petition to the personnel officer at the assembly, Leonard Mensah, said the actions of the MCE often leaves many in doubt that the NDC in the constituency cannot evince any courage of conviction to tell its own members to vote for the party again, let alone try to persuade floating voters to vote for the party in the 2012 elections. Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop, sycophancy and bootlicking minority on one side and disillusioned and suffering minority party foot soldiers on the other side, he said. He stated that only a few NDC members were enjoying the better Ghana initiated in the constituency with the MCE whiles NPP members are enjoying. NDC party faithful who risked their lives for the party are becoming embittered against the party because of the pestering of the MCE, he added. They pointed out that the MCE left the NDC to join the NPP for all the years the party was in opposition and never contributed anything towards the 2004 and 2008 campaigns of the party, but rather followed the independent candidate of the area, Samuel Oppong, on his campaign trail. They emphatically stated that the MCE has openly told them that he bought the position from the Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe, the former constituency chairman of the party, Musah Donkor, and the regional executives of the party, with support from NPP people. They hinted that Mr. Obeng Forson has also been going about telling people that until he makes enough money to offset his indebtedness to his financiers as well as make his investments in securing the MCE position, he is not under any contractual obligation to take care of the NDC faithful. They stated that the MCE has made his first born child the director of Zoomlion in the constituency and he was able to build a mansion and buy a Nissan Saloon car for his wife only a month into his appointment whiles the NDC party, which offered him an employment opportunity; do not even have a constituency office. They expressed concern about the way their meeting at the Roman Catholic Parish Hall was restricted by the Municipal Police Commander with the excuse that the party did not have permission from police to organise the meeting. When did the Ghana Police start issuing out permits to political parties before organising meetings, they asked. They have therefore called on President Mills to change him immediately.
