The Head of Technical Operation of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, Mr. William Tetteh has advised the public to be mindful of the quality of their cylinders to ensure safety.

He explained that every cylinder comes with its serial number and the company which manufactured it.

According to him the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company undertakes remodeling of old cylinders instead of swapping it for users.

He said, every cylinder has its own lifespan of 10 years of continuous use, where it can be remodeled for additional five year usage.

Speaking with Peace FM's News reporter Erica Eyifah, Mr. William Tetteh explained that they take the cylinders through a process before they advise customers on whether to remodel or buy a new one, according to the Ghana standard authority certified billing.

Mr. William Tetteh stressed that, every cylinder has its own maximum capacity to be filled and must not exceed its limit.

Also on his side, the Assistant Director of Safety at Ghana National Fire Service Headquarters; Mr. Michael Ato Korsah advised the general public not to fill their cylinders above the maximum capacity.

He urged Ghanaians to avoid indoor storage of gas cylinders.

He said whether full or half empty, Gas cylinders should be kept upright at all times in a well-ventilated area.

“Store gas cylinders away from ignition sources such as open flame, or heat,” he said.

He noted again that cylinders must be kept at least 20 feet from combustible materials in a dry, ventilated place.

However, a gas cylinder sprayer, Abdul Rashid also in an interview with Erica Eyifah, said, he usually advises his customers to buy a new cylinder rather than repair the old one if it is damaged.
