Today Is 02/02/2020 - The First Palindrome In 909 Years

Today is 02/02/2020, marking the first palindrome to occur in a numerical date in 909 years.

That means the date reads the same whether its read forwards or backward.

A palindrome is a sequence of numbers or letters that reads the same no matter how one reads it. For example, the words mom and dad are palindromes.

The last time a palindrome within a date occurred was 909 years ago on 11/11/1111.

The next one will come in 101 years on 12/12/2121.

The math department at the Solihull School in England pointed out in a tweet early Sunday that the date also reads the same in all date formats: US, UK and the International Organization for Standardization, or ISO, which places the year before the month and date.

The school's animated tweet shows how the numbers can easily switched in direction without changing the date.

Las Vegas wedding chapels, which love to entice couples with 'significant' or 'easy-to-remember' dates, also found 02/02/2020 to be useful in marketing their services to anyone looking for a memorable anniversary.

'Notably, 2-2-20 and 2-20-20 are unmatched when it comes to significant sequences, not to mention that your two year anniversary will take place on 2-2-22 or 2-22-22!!' the Royal Wedding Chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard wrote on its website.

'Two being the ultimate symbolic number representing you and your spouse to be. Two becoming one,' the chapel's marketing pitch adds.
