The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has responded to a false statement by the Asante Youth Association (AYA) that there is a deliberate agenda by the Akufo-Addo led government targeted at disrespecting the authority of theAsante Kingdom.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako in his reaction noted that the address put out by the group was "shallow" and "clearly lacked common sense". He therefore advised them to "just shut up" and focus on telling the truth.

"When my business was targeted under the regime of John Mahama, did AYA speak out? Where did they hide their common sense or during JM's time they traded it to him? Did they speak for me because I come from Ashanti region? Enough of your nonsense", he said.

The leaderahip of the Asante Youth Association are claiming that there is a surge in persecution of iconic businessmen from the Ashanti region by the Akufo-Addo government.

According to them, the current administration has started "a new campaign to destroy one of the business moguls of our land has begun and notably among them are; Nana Oduro Founder of First Allied Bank, Dr Kwabena Dufuor the founder of UniBank Ghana Plc, Mr Ansonamoah the largest shareholdings of UT bank".

Narrowing their statement down to Dr. Dufuor, they lamented that "this man targeted to destroy after collapsing his bank and other businesses, is the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and former Finance Minister, our own Dr Kwabena Duffuor, one of the few Asante stars that all of us as young ASANTES look up to and aspire to become as great as he is."

But the Ashanti Regional Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi responded that "the leaders of AYA have gone to take money from their NDC paymasters to spew garbage".

He explained that if the group were made of true Ashantis, they would have known that "Ashantis don't condone and support criminals".

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako continued that the government of Nana Akufo-Addo doesn't seek to destroy businesses of private people as AYA is painting but was rather enforcing the laws to work in every sector of the economy.
