"That Was A Very Useless Question…" - Kwamena Duncan Rants

One of the questions the National Democratic Congress (NDC) asked the Electoral Commission during a recently held Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting was whether the current voters’ register is credible.

However, Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has described the question as ‘useless’.

A couple of weeks ago, the EC, together with the Advisory Committee of Eminent Persons and the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), held a meeting to find common grounds on the need to compile a new voters register.

The meeting, however, ended in a stalemate.

The NDC and other political parties were, are still fiercely opposed to the decision by the election management body - (EC), to conduct this year's election with a new voters register.

Present at the meeting were the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensah; representatives of some political parties including the ruling New Patriotic Party, Convention People's Party (CPP), People's National Convention (PNC), Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), aLL pEOPLE'S cONGRESS (APC), Democratic People's Party (DPP), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

It was at that meeting that the biggest opposition party sought to find out whether the current register is credible.

"They shouldn’t have asked that question; it’s a very useless question," Kwamena Duncan said while speaking to the controversies surrounding the compilation of a new voters' register.

He believed the question was malice-induced; "it was just a trap for the EC; useless question. All registers are credible and they produce credible results and so they shouldn’t waste our time".
