Be Bold Mr President . . . "It’s Now Or Never" – Peace FM's Yaw Kesseh On Missing Excavators

The issue of galamsey seems to have taken a different dimension as unconfirmed reports indicate that it is now being allegedly practiced by some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A few weeks ago, reports emerged that about 500 excavators have gone missing after they were seized by the Operation Vanguard team (an operational team made up of various security personnel purposely set up to clamp down on illegal mining).

Prof Frimpong-Boateng, the Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), who announced that the excavators had vanished subsequently issued a letter directing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest and interrogate Ekow Ewusi after learning that he reportedly sold some of the confiscated items from illegal miners.

Subsequently, a video making the rounds on social media indicates how the Committee reportedly can engage with some party folks on some mining concessions in order to raise money from the illegal activities to support the party.

Reacting to this on Peace FM's 'The Platform' programme, host of the show, Nana Yaw Kesseh asked President Akufo-Addo to act on the issue immediately.

“You were assigned to stop galamsey and after doing that you use the seized machines and use it to engage in the same thing you were asked to stop . . . Your excellency, you put your presidency on the line to stop galamsey. I’ve always believed you to be a man of your own words; this is the time. Ghana needs you . . . it is either now or never . . . ” he urged.
