Don’t Preach What You Don’t Practice – NPP Member To John Boadu
An indigene of Asante Akyem Central, Kofi Kyei Adu-Aboagye has petitioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, John Boadu to ensure the release of nomination forms to candidates contesting the party’s impending Parliamentary Primaries in the Ashanti Region.
He expressed concern over the shortage of the nomination forms and in a statement, impressed upon the General Secretary saying “please Uncle John; there is growing discontentment with your leadership, however minute the problem might seem now. One case in point is the shortage of forms for our parliamentary primaries this year, which appears man-made. The ‘John’ I used to know would have acted long ago to avert the mess we have at our hands now”.
He appealed to John Boadu to quickly address his concerns.

My General Secretary,
I personally appreciate all the diligent effort and hard work that you put into winning the party power in 2016. Your dedication to work was not only unparalleled; it was also inspiring for our youth who nursed ambitions to climb the political ladder. Before then, we had painfully lost power in 2008 as a result of apathy and complacency, among other things. If the belief in historical destiny is anything to go by, then we should revisit the books on the shelves and remind ourselves how power slipped from us when we thought we had it in firm grips.
Please Uncle John; there is growing discontentment with your leadership, however minute the problem might seem now. One case in point is the shortage of forms for our parliamentary primaries this year, which appears man-made. The ‘John’ I used to know would have acted long ago to avert the mess we have at our hands now.
And I must mention my excitement at the news that you were going to handle this issue in the Ashanti Region. However, what I see now is a protracted suppression of the democratic rights of those candidates who are have not been been able to access forms for the parliamentary primaries – and this does not put us in a good light as the kingpins of democracy.
We cannot preach what we don’t practice! I believe the leadership will take steps to resolve this but we shouldn’t have been here in the first place, so the earlier the better.
There is no underestimating the challenge that confronts us now by merely assuming that only one region is affected. Certainly you cannot underestimate anything that happens in your stronghold, Ashanti Region! The earlier you act the better because a monster is been nurtured in your safe haven and has the potential to cause irreparable damage that will divide and destroy us.
Let me wrap up by alluding to the loud silence from your office when Manaf was denied the opportunity to contest in Asawase and the concomitant repercussions which don’t need mentioning.
We can live to the tag of ‘beacons of democracy’. All hope is not gone Uncle John but please let’s make hay while the sun is still shining.
