New Register: EC Being Used As Conduit To Suppress NDC’s Votes In Strongholds - Ras Mubarak Claims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak says the Election Commission is being used as a conduit to suppress votes of his party in regions that are inclined with the opposition NDC.

He insisted that the nature of the Electoral Commission (EC) to go ahead with the new registration for the 2020 general elections against all odds is rather an agenda of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to use the Commission to suppress the votes of the NDC in their strongholds.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Ras Mubarak asserted that the country is already in flames of tension, making it unwise to carry out the compilation of a new voter register for the 2020 general elections.

“We have seen that they are attempting to suppress the votes of the NDC in the Volta Region, Northern Region, Upper West, and Upper East, in parts of Brong Ahafo and Central Regions, and we have seen this with the NIA registration. Look at the machines that Ken Attefuah sent to Ashanti Region and compare that to the machines they sent to other regions,” he asserted.

To him, even though the Electoral Commission (EC) is supposed to be an independent body mandated by law to compile a new register, it is an open secret to Ghanaians the person who calls the shot at the Electoral Commission.

He stressed that the removal of Charlotte Osei as EC Chairperson coupled with the happenings in the Akufo-Addo government clearly shows political interference.

“We know who calls the shot at the Electoral Commission even though the Commission is supposed to be an independent body. If you look at the way Charlotte Osei was sacked from the EC and the things happening in Akufo-Addo's government, clearly, you can see that the removal of Charlotte Osei was political . . .  there is an attempt to push everybody aside in state institutions and fix their people there in order to perpetuate their fraud in the general election," he alleged.
