Tell Ghanaians The Truth About Fuel Prices - Murtala Mohammed Fires NPA
General Secretary of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Murtala Mohammed, has cautioned NDC and NPP members to stop playing with the emotions of Ghanaians and tell them the truth about petroleum prices.
He says even though the truth hurts it is better to disclose it at an early stage than to conceal it with sweet talk.
Discussing a statement by the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Hassan Tampuli that per their calculations, fuel prices may be reduced by 15% on March 15, 2020, during the next pricing window, the PPP communicator during a panel discussion on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion show rubbished it.
“Stop talking about reduction in petroleum products since you can't do anything about it . . . but if you insist let us see and feel it as citizens for the current economic conditions are not the best,” he said.
He further explained that the petroleum prices have been deregulated in such a way that no government in power can subsidize it unless by the power of parliament.
“If there is something a government can do on petroleum products then it is to reduce taxes placed on petroleum products, but I know they [government in power] will not do this, but keep deceiving Ghanaians to keep their hopes high,” he added.
