IMANI Not Consistent With Reasons For Kicking Against New Register - PPP Gen. Secretary

General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Murtala Mohammed says IMANI Ghana has not been consistent with its reasons for kicking against the new voters’ register.

According to him, IMANI Ghana has been moving the goalposts when it comes to the reasons why they are kicking against the Electoral Commission’s decision of compiling a new voters’ register, as they have not been able to convince the public with their stance.

“If you have monitored IMANI for some time, you will notice that from the beginning they said there is no need to compile a new register, they again said the existing ones the Electoral Commission said cannot be upgraded were a lie because the machines can be upgraded,.

“Later, the same IMANI said that the cost of buying new machines is too high and now they are talking about procurement breaches . . . but it will amount to nothing," he said.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Murtala Mohammed said it is understandable for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to kick against the new voters’ register due to politics, but the stance of IMANI Ghana is not justifiable.

He said the manufacturers have said they cannot support the machines that IMANI Ghana wants the EC to upgrade; thus, the matter is a foregone conclusion as it was not the EC that said it cannot upgrade the machines but rather it came from the manufacturers, defeating IMANI Ghana’s argument on the upgrade.
