People Diagnosed With Coronavirus Advise To Stay Away From Their Pets
Dr Simon Gbene, the Western Regional Veterinary Director, has advised people diagnosed with coronavirus to stay away from their pets to avoid the spread of the virus.
He explained that animals like humans, have the tendency to contract the virus and any closeness with an infected person would ultimately result in transmitting the Virus.
Dr. Gbene told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that "if the virus was given to animals or pets such as dogs and cats a reverse situation may occur and that could eradicate the gains in fighting the novel virus".
The Coronavirus has ravaged many countries with over 180,000 infections and 7,000 deaths with Ghana recording 16 cases so far.
Dr. Gbene, therefore, advocated that those on self-quarantine should do well to also stay away from their pets and families.
The President last Sunday issued directives for the suspension of all major public activities to help control the pandemic.
