Wee Cultivation: Opportunity For Wee Farmers To Make Money - Ras Mubarak

Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarak says the legalization of cannabis in the country will offer an opportunity for farmers and the youth who are interested in cultivating cannabis (wee) to make a lot of money.

He explained that the wee farmers will make a lot of money due to the fact that Ghana has good a weather for wee farming, encouraging the youth to take advantage of the passage of a law to make people cultivate cannabis also known as marijuana for industrial and medicinal purposes.

“I believe that it will help our farmers a lot because the weather in Ghana is good for wee farming and it will help a lot. Now, after the regulation, we can get into it by getting your license and grow the wee and make a lot of money out of it,” he advised.

Ghana has legalized the use of cannabis for health and industrial purposes. This is after Parliament passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2019 on Friday (March 20, 2020).

The new law empowers the Minister for Interior to grant licenses for the cultivation of cannabis of not more than 0.3 percent THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives the users a high sensation, for industrial and medicinal purposes.

The law also makes the country’s Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) a Commission with enhanced powers to oversee the industrial use of some narcotic substances. The Commission, however, will still have the mandate to control and eliminate the trafficking of prohibited narcotic drugs to ensure public safety.

Commenting on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Ras Mubarak who is a Farmer reminded the public that the new law which allows interested Farmers to go into wee cultivation is for industrial and medicinal purposes as there will be a regulation to guide individuals who want to go into wee farming for exportation ito places like North America and Europe.

“Let me also say that we have tightened the law and so if you behave and you are arrested, you will stay in prison for a long time. People should be very careful; Parliament sorts to do it very well,” he admonished.

He, however, indicated that inasmuch as he abhors smoking of any kind and legalizing recreational marijuana, he admitted that “there is a window of opportunity for our farmers, and the youth to make a lot of money from cultivating and exporting what has been approved by Parliament”.
