The Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye has said that locking down the country is not the best of a solution in containing the spread of the disease.

According to the Bono Chairman, the country is not well equipped enough in terms of agriculture and other resources to undergo a total or a partial lockdown.

He added that locking down will serve as a means of hunger for the whole nation.

Speaking on Okay FM's Ade Akye Abia Programme, Abronye DC stated that “And so locking down is not the solution for now because when you lock down, people in the rural areas go to the farm daily before they can eat during the day and others have to sell handkerchiefs to fend for themselves so if you call for a lock down, how will these people eat?” Abronye quizzed.

Using America to buttress his point he said, “If Americans do not go to work for even ten years, each will be given an amount of Ghc 1000 a week so let’s ask ourselves that as a nation, how much is our budget for the entire year?” he stated.

Kwame Baffoe again said that Ghana cannot compare herself to infected nations undergoing lockdowns because their economies are different from ours.

“You cannot compare yourself to that of UK, Italy, California and South Africa because they have better economies and resources to sustain them.”

Abronye further advised that Ghanaians practice a lockdown on their own instead of a total or partial lockdown since social gatherings could spread COVID-19.

Ghana until today Thursday, 26 March, 2020 has recorded 132 new cases with 4 deaths.
