The Yendi Municipal Security Council has set up a 12-member public health management committee to sensitise the residents to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The committee, which is chaired by the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Hammed Abukari Yussif, include the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Gaspard Dery, a representative of the Ghana Education Service, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, the Municipal National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) Director, Alhaji Sulemana Abu and the Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi.
The rest are a representative of civil society organisations, Mr William Yaw Apuri, the Yendi Municipal Public Health Unit Officer, Mr Cliford Clifford Ansah, a representative of Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II, Mr Abdul Rahaman Mohammed and a representative of Muslims, Alhaji Alhassan Taribabu, among other stakeholders.
Emergency
Speaking at an emergency meeting of the assembly, Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf indicated that the emergency meeting was called to inform the members and the public on the need to form the committee on the COVID-19 in Yendi.
He said to ascertain preparedness and adherence to the President’s directives to improve hygiene standards at all public places, especially market places and lorry stations, there was the need for such a committee to be formed.
He called on members of the committee to sensitise the public to proper handwashing on all available medium within their respective jurisdictions and advised them to educate the public on the prevention of COVID-19 at the market places, lorry stations among others.
He reminded them of the ban of funerals, weddings, out-doorings and other public gatherings
Scared public
The Yendi Municipal Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Ayuba Abdulai said the Tamale Teaching Hospital would also have the equipment for testing for COVID-19.
During the question and contributions, it was suggested that all security agencies and health workers be given protective gears against COVID 19 to handle suspected cases.
He also called for hand washing facilities at the entry points to the Yendi township for passengers and those entering Yendi to wash their hands.
