The closure of Ghana's borders has been extended for two more weeks according to a tweet by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah via his social media handle.

The extension takes effect from midnight April 5, 2020.

“Hi Folks, President @NAkufoAddo has by a new executive instrument, EI 66, extended the closure of Ghana’s borders by another two weeks effective midnight tomorrow April 5" the tweet indicated.

According to the Information Minister, "Mr President believes that these tough decisions are necessary to protect the lives of Ghanaians despite the inconvenience it causes to many."

"We continue to thank essential service providers who are at the frontlines of this covid-19 response program. We also thank the people of Ghana for their cooperation thus far. #ThisTooShallPass" he added.

Background

Ghana closed all its borders on Sunday, March 22 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo in an address to the Nation said the closure “will not apply to goods, supplies and cargo.”
