A group calling itself Oti Women for New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oti Region, has commended “notable women” leading the fight against the novel corona virus pandemic in the country.

The group said it had noted that the pandemic was getting heart wrenching and scarier, but interventions and support towards the fight by notable women continued to give hope to the Ghanaian women.

In a press release signed by Madam Millicent Carboo, President of the group and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said it was refreshing to note that the leadership from the seat of government to the ministries involved in the day-to-day management of the pandemic had seen notable women and political figures playing critical roles in this fight.

“Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady of Ghana, Madam Frema Opare, Chief of Staff at the office of the President, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo, Chairperson of COVID-19 Trust Fund, Madam Cecelia Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, and Madam Cynthia Morrison, Minister of Gender and Social Protection are few of the notable women and political figures playing critical roles in this fight,” it said.

The group said although the disease had broken down the health systems of even the world’s advanced economies, the situation in Africa and Ghana even though not out of hand, was already being fought from all angles with the decisive leadership offered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo amidst the scanty resources and interventions from health experts had been phenomenal.

Madam Carboo said the group wished to congratulate the women for their hard work and dedication to the country in the trying moments, adding that they had proven and justified their appointments.
