Strasbourg striker Abdul Majeed Waris has dismissed claims "partisan politics" have accounted for Ghana's inability to win an Africa Cup of Nations title in 38-years, insisting bias player selection should be blamed for the continental drought. 

The 28-year-old, who is on loan from Portuguese side FC Porto, has sharply disagreed with the claims of his international teammate Mubarak Wakaso.

Wakaso, who has signed for Chinese side  Jiangsu Suning F.C, sparked controversy when he claimed the country's two biggest political parties - NPP and NDC are to be blamed for the country's 38-year trophy drought.

He subsequently apologised for the comment less than 23-hours. 

But Waris has dismissed the claims of his compatriot, insisting bias selection should be blamed.

“I saw Wakaso making a comment that partisan politics is affecting the Black Stars. I feel that it is not entirely the case affecting the performance of the players, because politics doesn’t play football," he is quoted by  Saddick Adams  on YAC Media Instagram Live.

“I think with the national team the politics affects the selection of players. With me, they call you from Europe when you’re performing well and always drop you like a scapegoat for players who do not even play half a season and I’m not going to talk about myself alone.

“I feel the political aspect of players is something that is affecting the Black Stars.

“The selection is not based on your performance, it’s only based on politics in the team and I think it is something that affects us at tournaments because that’s the biggest stage that everyone wants to be part and that’s also when the politics get in a lot."
