COVID-19: Compile Register For The Vulnerable To Assist Them – Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said the country must compile a register for the vulnerable “to enable us to assist struggling folks now” because the adverse economic impact on many, as a result of fighting COVID-19, has been devastating.

This, Mr Ablakwa said, is necessary rather than “haggling over a new voters' register for an election far away in December which already has a credible register.”

In the lawmaker’s opinion, the December elections would not be won by a new or old register.

He Wrote:-

The adverse economic impact on many as a result of fighting COVID-19 has been devastating. We should be compiling a register for the vulnerable to enable us assist struggling folks NOW as many other countries are doing instead of haggling over a new voters' register for an election far away in December which already has a credible register.

Human survival must precede political power.

In any case, the December 2020 elections would not be won by a new or old register. The winner will be determined by genuine demonstrable empathy for the current humanitarian crisis, a track record of delivery and a compelling vision for the difficult future in a post-pandemic era.

Blessed Sunday. May we be endowed with greater wisdom as we navigate uncharted waters.
