'Government Has Not Supplied EC Any PPE' - EC Replies Minority Leader

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted suggestions by the the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu that government has supplied the commission with personal protective equipment (PPE) in order for it to proceed with a compilation of a new voters register.

Haruna Iddrisu recently chastised the government for allegedly providing the PPE for staff of the EC instead of equipping frontline health and security workers to better aid them in the fight against the coronavirus disease.

In a statement issued by the EC on Monday, May 11 however, the commission says no such provision has been made by government and that the claim by the Minority Leader is untrue.

Begging for answers from Electoral Commission

The statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Silvia Annoh consequently urged the public to disregard the earlier information put out by the Minority in Parliament.

The statement however said even though plans are far advanced for the compilation of a new voters register, the commission is sensitive to the current state of affairs due to the Covid-19 and would abide by the necessary precautions and safety protocols in the execution of its mandate.
