The Municipal Chief Executive of Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Mariama Karley Amui with her team from the Assembly and the Assembly Man for Abossey Okai Electoral Area Hon. Tubai Amando, paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association.

This was a follow-up visit and and onward intervention to the locality having already been there in the wake of the pandemic on three different occasions. The initial engagement was to educate them on how to stay safe and how to adhere to the social distancing protocol and that necessitated the sharing of Veronica buckets and handwashing detergents. The other visit was to fumigate the area and most recently for a clean-up exercise.

It came to the notice of the Assembly that all these interventions have fallen on death ears after the Environmental and Sanitation Inspectors of the assembly went around to monitor the progress of those initiatives.

As a result of this, the Assembly through the leadership of the MCE, Hon. Mariama Karley Amui and a support from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development decided to give away 1400 nose masks to the indigenes of Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers.

The MCE charged the union to join forces with the Assembly to ensure that everybody wears a nose mask so far as they find themselves in and around Abossey Okai.

This is to ensure that nobody is found culpable in breaching the legal requirement of wearing Nose Mask in public.

In furtherance to that, Hon. Mariama Amui admonished the union to do their best in ensuring that these directives are followed or risk being closed down temporary as done to other market centres.

The other option is that, workers may be asked to rotate their schedules and run in shifts to avoid congestion at Abossey Okai.

The MCE assured the union that the education will go on throughout the week by the Municipal Information team and as such, the necessary cooperation is needed.

The team later went to Kaneshie-Takoradi Station which has three different unions merged together.

The move was also to sensitize the union workers through their leadership and also give away 300 face mask with 1000 to follow.

The situation at Kaneshie-Takoradi Station was a very proactive one as the union has already put in place mechanisms to enhance safety of passengers and drivers.

One of such is, details of every passenger is taken before tickets are handed over to them. This is to aid in contact tracing if the need arises

As part of that, the team led by the MCE went into the various buses to give out nose masks to all and sundry and advised that we all should be each others keeper in times like this by staying safe at all tiimes.
