Central Regional Library Reaches Out To Patrons Amidst COVID-19 Restrictions

To ensure adequate service delivery amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Central Regional Library has introduced flexible media services to prioritise the needs of its patrons and the public.

This, according to Mr Harold Kwame Appiah Kubi, the Central Regional Librarian, was to ensure that patrons and the public had access to library services despite the closure of educational institutions and ban on social gatherings.

It is also geared towards sustaining the interest of the public in reading and learning in the region to meet the national agenda of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA).

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Kubi noted that the services of the libraries across the country was affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This, he said warranted the need to initiate innovative programmes and other services to meet the needs of patrons while they stayed at home.

The Regional Librarian said the regional library, through its social media platforms was running educative programmes such as “ICT lessons” and “Word of the Day” and encouraged patrons to visit its Facebook and other social media handles to learn.

Additionally, he said through its radio programmes, it was disseminating information on reading and learning to create awareness about the existence of libraries and its availability online which patrons could take advantage of in the period of the deadly COVID-19.

Mr Kubi implored students and the public to utilise its online ‘Ghana library application’ to study.

That the App he indicated, had in stock all categories of books and subjects for Junior High School (JHS) students and beyond.

He encouraged patrons to use the Encarta as an alternative way of learning and also urged beneficiaries of the Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme to continue to patronize the “Read2Skill” Programme to keep them abreast with their studies.
