Birth Certificate Not A Proof Of Eligibility For Voting - Sammi Awuku

Sammi Awuku, the National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says birth certificate has never been a criterion for identification or proof of eligibility in Ghana’s voting process.

He refuted the opposition NDC’s argument that  the birth certificate has previously been accepted for registering as a voter in Ghana.

According to him, per the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) which governs the conduct of the EC and elections in the country, “birth certificates have never been stated as criteria or proof of eligibility”.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Sammi Awuku stated another problem with the birth certificate is it does not have a pictorial evidence of the bearer, therefore cannot be used as an identification document.
