Compassion International Ghana (CIG) has presented a cheque for Ghc100,000.00 to the COVID-19 Trust Fund in support of the fight to contain and stop the spread of the respiratory illness.
Mrs Gifty Dansoa Appiah, the National Director, CIG said as an organisation that was Christ-centred, Church-based, and Child focused, they would continue to pray for government and all partners in fighting the pandemic.
"As a good corporate citizen, the leadership and the Advisory Council of CIG thought it wise that in addition to the support that we continue to provide for Ghanaian children in this pandemic era, there is also the need to support government directly in the efforts to defeat the unseen enemy that has disrupted the life of our country", she said.
She said the CIG had operated in the country for 15 years and together with its Church partners, the organisation supported over 90,000 vulnerable children and youth in deprived communities.
Mrs Appiah said over the last two months, the Organisation rolled out special interventions including; the provision of targeted food to support vulnerable households in the communities where it worked.
"We provided food and other household items worth over GH¢1.7 million to some 34,500 households in deprived communities and embarked on the distribution of face masks to all the children and youth in our on-going programme,” she said.
She pledged CIG’s commitment to continue to support the many vulnerable children living in deprived communities and registered in their programme.
Mrs Appiah said “We are not in normal times, but we trust in the enduring love and protection of our God and very soon we strongly believe that this too shall pass".
CIG currently operate in 10 out of the 16 Regions with the mission to release children from poverty in Jesus' name.
Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, the Chair for COVID-19 Fund thanked the Organisation for the gesture and appealed to other institutions to support the Fund.
She asked for a database of the Organisation's child development programmes for government assistance.
