There Was An Assassination Attempt On My Life During NDC Era - Woyome

Embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome, has revealed that there was an attempt to kill him during the NDC era.

According to the member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the assignation attempt on his life was due to the fierce resistance he put up against some powerful people who he claimed had been scheming to take a big contract from him.

The contract, Mr Woyome said, was the deal government signed with Waterville, a construction company he (Woyome) fronts for, to re-construct the Kumasi and Accra sports stadia for CAN 2008.

After he had gone round to raise the required funds for the project, and execution of the contract had commenced, the government cancelled its contract with Waterville, failing to pay him Woyome any monies for his services.

Speaking on CitiTV, the businessman said the people in government cancelled that contract unfairly after he said he had spent millions of dollars to open up offices in New York, Washington DC, Vienna, and, Italy.

“The contract was not taken away from me, cabinet purported to have cancelled it which power they did not have from law. So I brought lawyers from London to come and deal with the matter for negotiation out because, I has spent money to set up offices in New York, Washington DC, Vienna, Italy, other places with people and we were paying them per hour for over three years. We have spent over 20 million dollars to raise 1.4 billion dollars for Ghana. So then, if you say go where do I get my money back? They sacked the former BNI and brought a new one to interview me.”

He further explained the difficulties he went through in his bid to deal with this issues including death threats.

“What have Ghanaians seen, they have not seen anything. During the NDC time I was poisoned, there was an assassinated attempt on my life and many other things? So many things have happened. Juju poured into my house because they have not seen a Ghanaian that is resisting them. Let me tell you, this country if people win power a lot of people quickly pretend to be NPP, NDC and run around in other to make sure the status-quo as they imagine go on.”

In 2019, The Supreme Court ordered the sale of properties discovered by the state to belong to the embattled businessman to defray a GH¢51.2 million judgement debt paid him which the country’s apex court has ruled must be refunded.

According to the court, a claim by the now-defunct UT Bank that Mr Woyome used two of his houses at Trassaco as collateral for a loan could not be proven.

After some months, the Minister for National Security, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, suggested that assets of private businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, which were to be auctioned by the state to defray some money he owes the state should be surrendered to the state to “obviate the need for an auction.”

This follows the inability of the auctioneer to sell Mr Woyome’s assets due to fears by potential buyers that the properties will be restored to Mr Woyome by future governments.
