COVID-19: There's No Shame Testing Positive; Stop Stigmatizing People - Prez Akufo-Addo Warns

President Nana Akufo-Addo has issued a warning to Ghanaians to stop stigmatizing Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients or recovered persons.

The President, in his 12th update on COVID-19, expressed disgust over the behaviour of some citizens towards people who get infected by the virus.

"It is obvious that stigmatisation is adding further dimensions to the already difficult problem of the pandemic. Part of the reason for the spread of the virus is the reluctance of some persons to admit they have tested positive, and go into quarantine for fear of being stigmatised, and, in the process, continue to be agents of the spread of the virus."

President Akufo-Addo informed the nation that persons who recover from the disease do not pose any threat to human health neither should it be a shame for any person to contract the disease.

"Persons, who test positive for the virus, once they recover, do not pose any danger whatsoever to anyone, because the scientists tell us that they can no longer spread the virus. As I have said before, there is nothing shameful about contracting the virus," he asserted.

He therefore advised all Ghanaians "not have to lose our sense of community because of this pandemic".
