Mary Dankwa-Smith: Ghana’s Rugby Sensation Finally Laid To Rest

Mary Dankwa-Smith, a former player for the defunct Griffons Ladies Team has been laid to rest on Saturday, June 27, 2020, in Cape Coast.

The Ghanaian rugby sensation fell sick in the early days of January 2020 and was on medication for some time and later felt better and played with her teammates during the female league.

Mary Dankwa-Smith could not continue as she felt sick again and was rushed for Medical care.

But on March 6, 2020, Mary Dankwa-Smith sadly passed away.

As a way of paying their last respect to the late Mary Dankwa-Smith, the Ghana Rugby family with a delegation led by its Vice President Mr. James Nunoo were present at the final funeral rites of the late rugby gem.

Mr. James Nunoo on behalf of the Ghana Rugby President Mr. Herbert Mensah and the entire Ghana Rugby family made a donation to the family.

In the President’s speech delivered by Mr. James Nunoo, he stated that the Rugby family had lost a precious gem and an inspiration to many girls. He expressed condolences on behalf of the Rugby family.

In response, the head of the Dankwa – Smith family expressed gratitude for the gesture and encouraged the Rugby family to stay strong and continue where their beloved left off.
