K.T Hammond Goofed; His Communication Was Incoherent - Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has chided Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond over his recent comments regarding the people of Volta Region.

K.T Hammond, addressing a section of the media, explained that there is heavy security presence in the Volta Region to prevent non-Ghanaians from participating in the ongoing new voters' registration exercise.

Expounding further, he said due to the close relationship between Voltarians and citizens of Togo, it is easier for people who are not citizens of Ghana but are along the Ghana-Togo land to cross over the border stealthily and partake in the exercise.

The military is at the Aflao border to make sure you vote if you are a Ghanaian and if you have the constitutional right to vote. That’s all there is. They are not electoral officers, but they are peacekeeping forces. They are keeping the peace. They [Togolese] walk into the [Volta Region] and come out normally but they are not Ghanaians. When they walk in there, they can do whatever they do so I guess that is the reason for that," he said.

But the Parliamentarian has incurred the wrath of some Ghanaians as they deem his statements as disparaging and uncouth.

Addressing the issue, Kweku Baako says it was needless and irrelevant for K.T Hammond to communicate in the manner he did.

According to him, K.T Hammond goofed, hence asking "who sent him to speak on the issue?"

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Mr. Baako opined that the tactless act by K.T Hammond provided opposition parties with ammunition to fire at the Akufo-Addo government.

" . . it was a gaffe. I think the communication was not coherent. So, it created doubts . . . The truth is that we all have to insist on responsible speech and, in this case, I think K.T didn't help. He rather help those who already were waiting for ammunition to do their own thing," he stated.
