The sudden demise of Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known in politics as ‘Sir John’ came as the greatest shock to many including the first gentleman of the land, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) General Secretary, he had a call from the President to ‘rechecked’ and confirm to him if indeed their former Chief Scribe was no more.

John Boadu in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ said immediately after the President’s call, he did his checks from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and reported the sad news to the President.

“On my way home last night, the President [Nana Addo] called me to ask if truly Sir John was dead, I wasn’t sure myself so I had to call the rightful authorities to confirm the sad news to the President,” he told the sit-in host Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman.

Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known in politics as ‘Sir John’ died on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, while responding to treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s intensive care as a result of COVID-19.
