COVID-19: Adopt Rotation System At Workplaces - Dr Dacosta To Employers

Director of Health Promotion in Ghana, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye has implored employers to strictly adopt and adhere to rotation systems at their workplaces to curb the rapid increase of the COVID-19 infections in industries and the various workplaces.

According to him, all hands must be on deck in the eradication of COVID-19 in the country as it is very dangerous.

He said the country used to record an average of about 200 to 230 cases on a daily basis but instead of reducing, the last few weeks have seen a case count of 400 on daily basis.

Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye intimated that the medical team has now seen an increase of the COVID-19 cases at workplaces, industries, and in hotspots in some communities.

He added that in view of the new dimension of the spread, the medical team at the forefront of the COVID-19 fight has urged employers with 100 to 200 workers in their workplaces to comply with the laid down safety protocols, as such a number of workers constitute mass gathering.

“ . . we have also encouraged employers that if it is possible for them to rotate a shifting system at the workplace and also use virtual means to organize internal meetings at the workplace, it will help a lot. If it becomes necessary for the companies to organize meetings, then they have to practice social distancing,” he stressed.

He reiterated that as part of the safety protocols discussed with employers, the medical team has encouraged employers with more than 29 employees to form a task force headed by a professional nurse to assist companies with suspected COVID-19 cases in holding rooms they are to create.

“In the protocol, we have again encouraged employers that if they have more than 29 employees, they should go for nurses to assist them to follow our procedure to have holding rooms for suspected COVID-19 cases through a task force being created at the workplace headed by the nurse,” he mentioned.

He maintained that the country as a whole must device means to reduce the infection rate as we continue to manage and live with the virus.

He added  that the only way out to reduce the infection rate is through following  the safety protocols as they remain the country’s lifeline.
