The second round of the maiden edition of the Schools Sanitation Solutions (Triple S) Challenge took place at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
The contest, organised by World Vision Ghana (WVG), a non-profit organisation, in collaboration with Kings Hall Media seeks to encourage children across the country to identify sanitation problems in their communities and to also help suggest sustainable solutions.
In the first round, also known as the common contest, students were tasked to write an open letter to the President of Ghana addressing a major sanitation problem in their schools or communities.
The second round, which is the masters encounter, saw the students defend their script and the final round, yet to take place is the battle of the champions.
The masters encounter Ten students who qualified to compete at this stage defended their round one letters to a three-member panel of experts.
However, round two was female-dominated with only one male out of the ten participants.
After their presentations, four of them were selected to continue the race based on their understanding of the letter they wrote, the originality, articulation, fluency and confidence.
The top four, Maame Akua Ohenewaa Gyimah from the Virgin Hill School at Tema Community 25, Hemes Sylvia Apolara from the Pong Tamale Experimental JHS at Pong Tamale, Neriah Tettey and Joshua Desmenu both from the Silicon Valley International school in Accra would be competing in the grand finale in August 2020.
Prizes
For their prizes, the ten participants were awarded a cash prize and a certificate of participation each.
Having qualified for the final round, the four finalists expressed their excitement and were hopeful of winning the ultimate prize
