Chairman of the Risk Communication and Social Mobilization Committee for Ghana’s Covid-19 Response Team, Dr Aboagye Dacosta has assured Ghanaians the zeal of the frontline health workers working hard to protect Ghanaians against the deadly new coronavirus.

“We have worked so hard to make sure that Ghanaians are protected. Even if you look at the death rate of the Covid-19, Ghana’s death rate still remains very low if you compare to other African countries”, he indicated on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show.

Talking about the management of the Covid-19 cases, Dr Aboagye Dacosta explained to the host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese that the recovery rate of those who were reported on time to the treatment centres is about 83 percent.

“…those critical to severe condition patients that reported on time, as at last week, we had about 83% of them recovering. Most of the people who died of the Covid-19 were rushed to the hospitals and died after 48 hours. In fact, Ghana’s recovery is one of the highest in the world and this tells you that we have done well”, he disclosed.

He again said that due to the effort of the government and Ghana Health Service, the treatment centres and the hospitals are not overwhelmed; thus, the active cases in the country is gradually declining, urging Ghanaians to continue to protect themselves.

“The active cases we are all talking about as the country’s burden is gradually declining and so what I will tell every Ghanaian is that protect yourself by wearing your nose mask and even add the face shield. The safety protocols that the government has enrolled should be adhered to and if we comply with the protocols, we will be able to eradicate Covid-19 from the country”, he cautioned.

He hinted that the frontline health workers and a team set up by the government are monitoring the students who contracted the virus in schools; thus, the committee is making sure that the students write their final year exams in safety.

He was of the view that aside from the minor challenges, the measures the government has put in place has helped to reduce the infections as recorded in the country; emphasizing that the Covid-19 situation would have gotten out of hands if the government has not rapidly put measures in place.

“We thank God and Ghanaians for their continue support to help fight the Covid-19; we are not done with the fight yet because we still have about 3,000 people infected by the virus and so all hands must be on desk to comply with the safety protocols and make sure that we have reduced the infection. The percentage of death of the covid-19 is 0.5 percent”, he made the call on Ghanaians.
