NPP Resorting To Wrong Tactics For Fear Of Losing Power - Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has warned the Akufo-Addo government of fomenting civil war with its persistent maligning of the people of Volta Region as aliens from Togo.

According to him, the deployment of military officers at the borders of the Volta Region and Banda district with the sole aim of preventing the people from taking part in the voters’ registration exercise can spell doom for the country.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe posited that all peace-loving people should join the crusade against the Akufo-Addo government targeting one ethnic group of the country as people who are not Ghanaians; assuring that the NDC will remain in the Banda district to ensure that all the 2,000 people residing at the coastal belt of Banda register.

“We will continue to remain here to make sure that those 2,000 people will register because this can create serious problems as this government has targeted one ethnic group saying that they are not Ghanaians but Togolese; this is no joke as it can cause civil war in the country,” he said.

“This is the time for anyone who seeks peace to speak against this development; this is not a good thing to entertain in the country. The same thing happened before in the Volta Region and when I came to Banda, I witnessed the same thing and I wonder if it is the same Togo people who have come to Banda,” he added.

He, however, exonerated the Electoral Commission (EC) of not involved in the military intimidation of the people in the Volta Region and Banda as he claims that the EC has understood for every Ghanaian eligible to register to take part in the exercise.

To him, the intimidation is the handiwork of the Akufo-Addo government as it is the Regional Security Council that gave the instructions to the military officers to operate with; thus, it will be unfair to blame the problem with the security agencies on the EC.

“This is coming from the government itself because it controls the security agencies and it deployed them to Banda and gave them the instructions to operate with. You cannot blame the problems with the security agencies with the EC; this is coming the NPP government”.

"The Regional Minister can deploy the security agencies to any part of the registration centres or the region and so it is directly Regional Security Council issue and the same regional Security Council has signed an agreement with the two main political parties and after the agreement, the REGSEC redeployed the military officers to go against the agreement,” he said.

He, therefore, disclosed that former President Mahama, together with the MPs from the Volta Region are moving to Banda to confirm his earlier accusation that the Akufo-Addo government has deployed military officers to intimidate Voltarians.

With the happenings in the registration exercise, Asiedu Nketia was hopeful that victory is in sight, forcing the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo to resort to wrong tactics by employing the service of the military officers to intimidate people at registration centres.

"NPP is very hot and that is why they have resorted to that wrong tactics. All the intimidations going on in the country show that they fear that they will lose power to the NDC in the upcoming elections."
