What's Your 'Exit Plan' As Final Year Students Return Home? - Nana Ofori To Gov't

PPP National Chairman, Nana Ofori Owusu has called on the government, particularly the Information, Education and Health Ministries to show the roadmap on how they intend to get school children to mingle with their families without fear or panic.

He was commenting on President Nana Akufo-Addo's 15th COVID-19 nation address on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

The President noted that the government will be distributing free hot meals to the Junior High School (JHS) final year students getting ready to write their BECE.

The meals will be given to both public and private schools.

"As a result of reports I have recently received that some final years JHS students were going hungry in complying with the COVID-19 safety protocols, I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and social protection to begin preparations to ensure that as from 24th August -18th September 584,000 students and 146,000 staff both in public and private schools be given one hot meal a day…this is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 protocols," the President said.

Contributing to ''Kokrokoo'' on Peace FM, Nana Ofori Owusu asked the authorities about their exit plan for the school children when they complete their final year exams.

To him, the students shouldn't be allowed to just go back home without concrete proof of them not having contracted COVID-19.

He asked the Ministries to detail to the public and parents, the saftey plans for the students and their families.

''What are the processes in disengaging the students from their various communities that they're in now while returning home and how is the family also supposed to deal in receiving your own child into the house and the potential effect of that child and the rest of the other family? These are things, I think, the government must strengthen the efforts in that area'', he stated.
