Right Reverend Dr Seth Agidi, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana has called on the Church to help sustain the prevailing peace in the country.

He said the Church by nature was for peace and needed to play a major role to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.

Reverend Agidi, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ho, said the Church needed to preach and live peace at all times for societal growth and development.

The Moderator urged Pastors to appeal to their members, including politicians, to be responsible Christians at all times and to seek the country’s interest in their political career.

They must also act in ways that ensure the progress of the country.

He called on the pastors to remind the members to desist from the politics of insult and acrimony and instead focus on issues-based campaign devoid of attacks or violence.

“If all political actors would adhere to the issues-based campaign, the country would have incident-free elections,” he said.

Reverend Agidi called for strong mentorship and counselling programmes on national issues for the youth and their role to accelerate growth and development.

The Moderator urged Pastors to encourage the youth to avoid acts of lawlessness and to sensitise them on the consequences of electoral violence to the individual and society.

He urged parents to provide the needed moral training for their children to ensure they become responsible citizens, who are willing to sacrifice for the country’s socio-economic development.

Reverend Agidi said if the children were properly taught to respect societal norms and values, they would resist the influence of political actors to engage in activities that threaten the peace.
