2020 Polls: Andy Owusu Leads Ashanti NPP Grounds/Operations Work

The Special Aide and Political Strategist of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Andy Owusu, is expected to lead the operational and grounds duties of the party in the impending December 7 electioneering campaign in the region.

Andy Owusu, who is part of the 35 member Regional Campaign Team inaugurated on Tuesday,  will be coordinating all activities involving other identifiable groups such as Volunteers,  IT and Media, including social media.

The team also has a young journalist and Press Secretary to the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Ridwan Issah Alhassan,  leading the media front as the party seeks to consolidate power in its stronghold.

The Ashanti Regional branch of the ruling party has already set its sight on annexing all the 47 seats with its agenda 47/47.

The appointment of Andy Owusu and his team is seen as a positive step towards realizing this objective.

Last week, regional executives were in jubilant mood following what it said was a successful mass registration exercise which saw them hitting the 3 million target set for itself by the end of the exercise.

A pressure within the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC),  Ashanti NDC Youth Caucus,  was on record to have scolded its executives for their lackadaisical attitude towards the registration.

They accused their executives of giving Chairman Wontumi and his team 'a freeway' to operate in the region without any clear cut strategy to match him.

The NDC has the Ashanti Region as its third-largest stronghold after garnering over 400,000 votes in the 2016 elections, though it failed woefully to achieve the much talked about 1 million votes it had anticipated.

With the just ended voters register not going their way, there are fears the party's fortunes will further shrink with the NPP targeting 90% of the total voter turnout on December 7.
