Chief Killers Busted

Three men suspected to have murdered Nii Kwartey Djan I, Chief of Achiaman in the Ga South municipality, have been arrested by the police. They are Nii Armah Oshimpa aka Heater, 40, Nicolas Nii Kotey aka Cobra 37, and Kwabena Adzika aka Jack. The three were arrested at their hideout at Gbawe Gonse, near Ablekuma in Accra, following a tip-off. Items retrieved from them included a pump action gun with 17 cartridges, a Russian pistol with 30 live ammunitions, an empty pistol magazine and two rounds of AK 47 ammunition. Briefing Daily Guide, the Accra Regional Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Frank Adufati, indicated that Nii Kwartey Djan I, a former chief of Achiaman, was shot dead in his Nissan vehicle by some unknown assassins on February 6, 2011, on the outskirt of the town. He said investigations conducted revealed that the three were the suspects who shot the chief but they went into hiding. Upon a tip-off, police arrested Nii Armah Oshimpa and Nicolas Nii Kotey at Gbawe Gonse near Ablekuma on May 10, 2011 around 2:30pm. Superintendent Adufati stated that Kwabena Adzika was also arrested separately on May 13, 2011 around 1:40pm at Agape, also near Ablekuma. �Police managed to retrieve the weapons concealed in a rug and buried underground.� The late Nii Kwartey Djan I met his untimely death on February 6 around 7:30pm while he was leaving the town for Accra. He was traveling to Accra with his junior brother, Enoch Kwartey Martey in his Nissan 4�4 vehicle with registration number GW 9777 V. �Upon reaching the railway lane area near the Central Gospel Church, a gang of young men on board a white and yellow Kia Pride taxi cab, with an unknown registration number, laid ambush and fired at his car indiscriminately and mercilessly, killing him instantly,� he said. The junior brother, Enoch Kwartey Martey, who sustained an injury to the head, was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment while the dead body was deposited at the police hospital morgue.
