Ghanaians Targeted In Ivory Coast

The Government of Ghana has directed its mission in Ivory Coast to alert Ghanaians living there to be cautious with their pronouncements to avoid any attack from pro-Ouattara supporters. This follows complaints by Ghanaians in Ivory Coast that they are now targets following newspaper publications alleging that President Mills is backing some people to overthrow President Alasanne Ouattara. One of them who spoke to Citi News claims that they have become targets as some Ivorians mainly from the North of the country threaten to kill them. We need to talk to them to let them know that it is not true otherwise they are going to kill the Ghanaians here. However, a deputy Minister of Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in an interview with Citi News said the government is monitoring the situation in Ivory Coast carefully. He added that despite reports, President Mills would attend the investiture of President Ouattara. The invitation to President Mills is still standing, the Ivorian President is in talks with our President and they have assured him that they would do anything possible to guarantee his safety and they really want to see him at the investiture this weekend. We are also asking our mission in Ivory Coast to continue to monitor reports and ask that the Ghanaians who are living in Ivory Coast remain very cautious about their activities and pronouncements so that they do not unnecessarily attract any attack.
