Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, popularly known as Maa Lydia, has presented mathematical sets to candidates writing this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). 

According to her, the kind gesture forms part of her yearly support for all basic schools.

She made the donation to various schools while encouraging the students to study hard to pass their exams. 

She also admonished them to obey the rules and regulations governing the examination.

"l pray that God should grant you all a retentive memory so that you can reproduce whatever you have studied effectively and sufficiently. It is my fervent wish that God also sees you all through your final examination at the basic education level to make your parents, teachers and all of us proud."

A total of 531, 705 final year Junior High School students from 16,000 schools across the country are writing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which began on Monday, September 14 and will end on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Leakages over the years have prompted the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to introduce measures to curb exam malpractices and one of the measures is to extend the ban on mobile phones and related gadgets to exam officials at various centres.

Data provided by the examination management body indicates that 269,419 of the candidates are males and 262,286, females.
