Western Togoland Saga: Prez Gives Security Agencies Thumps Up

President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians his government will not condone the actions of the Western Togoland secessionists.

The secessionists on Friday, September 25, 2020 attacked some Police stations and blocked roads in the Volta Region.

Some people allegedly belonging to the group on Tuesday, September 29, also attacked the State Transport Corporation (STC) in Ho, setting the company's buses ablaze.

The group says the Government of Ghana should grant them independence to become an autonomous country called ''Western Togoland''.

Reacting to the issue in an interview on Hello FM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, the President stated emphatically that the group will be dealt with accordingly.

He was confident the security agencies are on top of the issue and was optimistic there will soon be peace in the Region and the country at large.

''The security agencies are doing their work. They've started already and we'll see results. If I panic, the country panics...That is not the purpose of leadership. I'm supposed to assure people that our country will work. What is happening in the Volta Region in the time of these handful - it's just a handful of people, these secessionists - we'll deal with it. I have no doubts about it.

''I trust the security agencies. I trust the Armed Forces. I trust the Police. I trust their leadership. The intelligence agencies, I know they are all working very, very, very hard to make sure that this matter is dealt with as quickly as possible'', he told host King Edward.
