2020 Elections: EC Okays 12 Aspirants For Dec. 7 Presidential Race

Five (5) Presidential aspirants have been disqualified from the 7th December 2020 polls by the Electoral Commission.

They include independent aspirant, Marricke Gane (fake signatures), Akwasi Addae Odike of the UPP (fake signatures), Kwesi Busumuru of the Popular Action Party (fake signatures and had no supporters for some districts in GA/R), Nana Agyenim Boateng of the UFP (three persons denied endorsing his candidature) and Kofi Koranteng, an independent aspirant.

The remaining 12 aspirants who filed have been cleared and will appear on the ballot paper for the 2020 elections.

They include leading contenders, President Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP and former President John Mahama of the NDC.

The others are Madam Akua Donkor of GFP, Dr. Henry Lartey of GCPP, Dr. Hassan Ayariga of APC, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of NDP, Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of CPP, Brigitte Dzogbenuku of the PPP; Mr. Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker, an independent aspirant and Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrew (Osofo Kyiri Abosom) of GUM.

The rest are Mr. David Apasera of the PNC and Mr. Kofi Akpaloo of the LPG.

In a report filed by Peace FM's William Gentu who attended the EC's press conference Monday afteroon, the Electoral Commission was ready to refund their deposited filing fees of Ghc 100,000 to them in line with the rules surrounding the process.

Chairperson for the Commission, Jean Mensa made this disclosure during an update on the status of candidates following the submission of their forms ahead of the elections.

CID Investigations

In a related development, all presidential aspirants who forged signatures and submitted fake documents in the filing process will be investigated by the CID of the Ghana Police Service.

According to the EC, most of the aspirants in their nomination forms forged signatures of some persons who allegedly endorsed them.

The five disqualified aspirants were independent candidates, Kofi Koranteng and Marricke Kofi Gane; UPP’s Akwasi Addae Odike, PAP’s Kwasi Busumbru and UFP’s Nana Agyenim Boateng.
