Lead By Example To Avoid COVID-19 Second Wave - Dr. Asah Asante Tells Political Actors

A Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Asah Asante has slammed the leadership and members of political parties in the country for holding campaign programmes without observing the COVID-19 protocols.

Dr. Asah Asante was alarmed by the influx of party supporters who throng the campaign grounds or join their candidates on a health walk not adhering to the safety protocols.

Former Attorney General and Member of Parliament of Essikado-Ketan constituency, Joe Ghartey recently recorded a mammoth crowd clad in the colors of the ruling New Patriotic Party at a health walk organized by him.

The crowd were seen not wearing masks nor observing the social distancing protocols.

There are similar occasions where party supporters and sometimes their executives together with the candidates are spotted not abiding by the protocols.

Dr. Asah Asante, speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo'', warned the political leaders amidst fears of a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He called on the leaders to stop encouraging Ghanaians to disregard the preventive measures.

''If they want to lead, they should lead by example. They should show us they abide by the laws," he stated.
