Kenya To Tighten Measures After Covid-19 Surge

Clubs and pubs across Kenya are set to be shut down again under new Covid-19 measures, the BBC has learnt.

It comes as East Africa’s largest economy is experiencing a surge of cases and the death toll has surpassed 1,000.

It has also emerged that political rallies and large gatherings are to be banned under steps to be announced.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has convened an emergency summit of county governors.

Last month, President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga led huge rallies attended by thousands in various cities to promote controversial constitutional reforms.

Many of those who attended the meetings did not wear masks or adhere to social distancing regulations.

It led to sharp criticism and accusations of hypocrisy from the public.
