Don’t Vote For Mahama; He Messed Up Our Economy - Danquah Institute

Executive Director of Danquah Institute, Richard Ahiagbah has appealed to Ghanaians to take note of Nana Akufo-Addo’s position that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has no solutions to Ghana’s economic problems.

According to him, the John Mahama-led NDC administration mismanaged the economy under his regime.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Mr. Ahiagbah stated that the ''available economic data suggests that the NDC has over the years managed the economy poorly. This is evidenced by the unprecedented poor macroeconomic indicators''.

“It is worth recalling that the average annual growth rate under the Mahama-led administration was 4.0%, GDP per capita growth rate was as low as 1.6%, inflation as of 2016 was 17.5%, the highest recorded in the last decade.”

“The mismanagement of the economy significantly impacted all sectors culminating in the decline of output in the industrial sector, the worst-hit from 6.6% in 2013 to 1.2% in 2016. The poor performance of the Mahama-led 3 the administration gave them no option than to seek a bailout of $912 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“…not only were the macroeconomic indicators under the Mahama-led administration poor, but other socioeconomic variables such as average annual growth rate of secondary school enrolment, which stood at 2.8%, and average annual growth rate of trained teachers in lower secondary education, which was 0.9%, were also abysmal, compared to international standards. These are indicative of the NDC’s inability to competently manage Ghana’s economy.

"It took the prudent economic management of the NPP-Led administration to rescue Ghana from the grip of the IMF," Mr. Ahiagbah added.
