Trump-like Mahama's Attack On The Media "Unstatesmanlike" - Oppong Nkrumah

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has described as "laughable" the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the media is 'in bed' with the Nana Addo-led government to rig the December 7, polls.

To him, the Ghanaian media are independent and objective in their reportage.

You all heard him attacking the media....it is so disheartening and unstatesmanlike. Mahama is now speaking against the media that the figures you are giving are not true. We’ve followed elections in this country and we know it’s the media that investigate and predict winners at polling stations, adding that, “let’s commend the media rather than attack them.”

Mr. John Dramani Mahama insists he has won the December 7, election but accused the media of siding with the Nana Addo-led government by projecting figures to create the impression that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has won the election.

He warned the media to desist from such acts or they will advise themselves when necessary.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a swift response likened the NDC flagbearer to the immediate past president of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump who has a proclivity of attacking the media.

Even this year you’ve improved your coverage of the elections. It is this year that John Mahama is saying that you’ve not done well. This attitude is just like when Donald Trump was about losing the US elections. He said the media was fake and against the interest of the country. He [John Mahama] is behaving like Trump.....,” he said.

To the Information Minister, the media is now more technologically savvy with advanced software that assists them to codify results ahead of the Electoral Commission during elections.

Now the media have gadgets and software and they have their reporters on the round to help collate result to project. They don’t declare as claimed by candidate Mahama....I want you to be vigilant and disregard it. You have done well and deserve plaudits instead of criticism”,,” he said.
