Disagreeing With Presidential Results Doesn’t Negate EC’s Declaration - Koku Anyidoho

Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho says the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa has done no wrong performing her constitutional responsibility to declare the 2020 Presidential Election results.

The former Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an interview on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show has indicated that the law allows the Electoral Commissioner to declare the Presidential Election based on the available results before her.

He noted that the declaration of the Presidential Election results cannot be negated regardless of the agitations of one or two political parties about the results that have been declared.

“Whether one or two political parties decide to accept the declared Presidential results does not negate the fact that the EC had declared the results. It does not negate the fact that the Presidential results have been declared,” he admonished.

He, however, entreated the aggrieved political parties to respect the rule of law of the country by going to court with their facts and case once they have decided not to accept the Presidential Election results declared by the Electoral Commissioner.

“Once you think that you would not accept the Presidential Election results, you are allowed to go to the court. Go and present your facts and your case to the court and let the court decide but it does not negate the fact that the EC boss, Mrs Jean Mensa has appropriately declared the Presidential results and so a certain Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the President-elect,” he entreated.

“What Jean Mensa has done, whether you like it or not, she has declared the Presidential Election based on the results from all the collation centres in the country,” he maintained.

He, therefore, cautioned the agitators to furnish Ghanaians and their followers with facts and figures to address their complaint and not emotions; thus, being emotional about the issue does not appeal to the conscience of the general public.

He called on the NDC to present their facts, figures, graphs and data as well as statistics to address the issue they have raised about the Presidential Election results as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has done to appeal to the conscience of Ghanaians.

"Even if they were lying to us, they came with something that we would look at with our conscience and not with our emotions. So, as you are saying with your mouth and someone is saying with the help of blackboard, chalk and pencil, which one is more revealing? Which is one more revealing to the conscience and not emotions; just to whip emotion?”, he said.
