Akufo-Addo Not Getting Over 60% In 2020 Election Shocking - Capt. Effah Dartey(Rtd)

A member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey(Rtd) says the one-touch victory of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was expected due to the numerous achievements he has chalked within the 4 years in office.

He added that the result from the Presidential Election for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was not his expectation as he looked forward to over 60 per cent of the votes for the incumbent and not just manage over 50 per cent.

According to the Private Legal Practitioner, the magnitude of lost seats in the Parliamentary Election the NPP suffered is shocking even though the party (NPP) had to lose at least 10 seat due to the many issues occurred during the primaries.

“I told myself that the way Nana Addo has done well in 4 years, he will get the one-touch victory but I was not sure of our Parliamentary majority. The way NPP did its primaries, it created a lot of issues and so our majority was going to reduce by at least 10 seats. Now after the election, the results, honestly I was shocked,” he indicated.

“With the Presidential Election results, I was expecting that Nana Addo would get over 60 per cent but he just managed to have 50 per cent and above and with the Parliamentary seats, it is not good at all,” he bemoaned.

To him, the usual politics in Ghana would have changed if not for the independent Member of Parliament-elect for the Fomena Constituency who for his love for the ruling party has decided to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament.

“ . . so as we speak, the 2021 Parliament will be too tight. NDC has 137 seats and the ruling NPP also has 137 seats and the independent candidate for Fomena Constituency will be making the difference in Parliament. If not for God and the good heart of the Fomena MP-elect who loves the NPP and therefore decided to join the NDC, then the usual politics in Ghana would have changed,” he posited in an interview on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show.

“Now, we are going to have a real test of democracy in Parliament for the next 4 years,” he indicated.
